For years, I have eaten a whole grain English muffin and coffee for breakfast. So this year, it was time to switch my breakfast routine to something healthier. I am always looking for ways to include healthy foods in each meal in a way that won’t make me dread them. Traditional green juice makes me cringe, so I came up with my own easy-to-drink smoothie that contains no refined sugar. This isn’t a protein shake but instead focuses on getting a serving of kale and other fiber-filled “superfoods”. This chocolatey smoothie has your daily requirement of vitamin A and vitamin C.
Turmeric has been getting a lot of buzz as a holistic, anti-inflammatory ingredient, so I decided to give it a try in this recipe. Turmeric is used in many Indian recipes but is cooked or roasted prior to consuming. That’s because raw turmeric isn’t always the most pleasant thing to consume. Luckily the cacao in this smoothie effectively overpowers the strong smell of the turmeric and the strong taste of the kale. It’s a little sweet, very chocolatey, and also very energizing.
