The Dalgona coffee craze has started! Everyone is stuck at home for the foreseeable future and missing their lattes. At least, I am missing my lattes! Dalgona coffee looks phenomenal and tastes much like a fancy coffee drink. It’s actually really easy to make at home with items you likely already have in the pantry. Dalgona coffee is a whipped coffee trend that started in Korea in January 2020. It’s named after a Korean dessert that it tastes similar to. It’s much easier and faster to make if you have a hand or stand mixer. It’s possible to make the mixture froth by using a whisk or a milk frother by hand but it takes much longer. I have not tried these routes because I am not that patient! I added dark chocolate sauce, coffee beans, and cocoa powder as toppings to make things interesting. You could also use caramel sauce as a topping or just enjoy it on it’s own.
Dalgona coffee foam seems to miraculously keep its shape regardless of the temperature of your milk. It’s actually thicker than milk foam. You can use any sort of milk, hot or cold to serve it on. I like to mix mine all together. You can use Dalgona coffee foam as a topping on desserts such ice cream or chocolate mousse. You can also use it to top smoothies or even coffee cocktails. It lasts in the fridge for an entire day so you can make the night before. The recipe is forgiving so feel free to add more or less sugar depending on your preferences. Don’t ask me how instant coffee turns into this frothy deliciousness… I just know that it does! It’s well worth the hype and a fun project for kids. Decaf instant coffee works just as well in case you are sharing with the little ones or trying not to stay up late.
